A story is only as good as the preparation that goes into it. It’s paramount to find the right sources and know them and the subject inside out. When I walk into an interview, our discussion flows freely and I walk away with powerful information to guide the story. While this preparation can be grueling, it is crucial in the process of writing a story. When planning an article, I never go into the interviews with the story already written in my head– I’m telling their story, not mine. Some of my writing is also done with an extremely short turnaround, to report breaking news to my community. Check out the active reporting section to learn more.
