Audience Engagement

We’re very grateful to have a community that supports our paper and cares about what we have to say. However, we are never satisfied with the amount of readers. Through social media, we promote our best stories and draw a bigger audience. But our ability to engage readers completely changed through the launch of our website. The weekend after launch, our site got over 600 views and nearly 1,600 stories were read. Since then, we have shared hundreds of stories and have brought in tens-of thousands of readers. Our engagement continues to grow as the new digital platform has allowed parents, alumni and others to stay connected with the school.

Who sees our papers

The ReMarker prints nearly 4,000 copies every cycle. Here’s the breakdown of where they go:

  • 917 students — every single one gets a paper.

  • 180 faculty and staff — each receives a copy.

  • 2,500+ alumni — we mail our papers across the world to interested alumni

  • 60+ exchange newspapers — we trade our paper with our “partner programs” around the country

  • 50+ trustees — each member of the Board of Trustees reads our paper, which informs their decisions.

  • 100 reserves — we save 100 papers each cycle for our archives.

Expanding with our website

Our website has brought in hundreds of new viewers, and they have been able to read thousands of stories they hadn’t previously. I love hearing from alums and parents alike who tell me they check the website daily, and are now more in touch with the school than ever. That was a key goal of the site. One parent told me, “My kid never brought the paper home, so I could never read the stories on time. Now, I can see them on the website every day.” Additionally, our social media has drawn more viewers to both our website and the paper itself.

Using SNOSites has also allowed us to track our audience engagement for the first time, and understand which type of stories are popular with are readers. The website helped us not only reach out to more readers, but also understand the success of our content in a whole new way.

Using social media

Throughout my three years running our social media accounts, our following has skyrocketed. Instagram is the perfect tool to reach students who spend their free time scrolling on their phone. With short videos and brief news posts, we have increased the amount of people who consume our content. Last March we increased our following with our “St. Mark’s Madness” tournament where students voted on Instagram for their favorite event or tradition at school. Head over to our social media to see what it looked like! Here is some insight into our audience and growth on instagram in just the last 30 days. (from Jan. 9 to Feb. 8)

YouTube growth

With more video production, we have linked stories in the paper and on the website to video content on YouTube. The success that some of our videos have had is shocking, as some of them have gone viral, reaching audiences outside of our school. The date ranges of the stats below highlight the immense growth this new form of content has brought us.
